I read this with interest, as I too was much taken with Vercors' book - a long time ago now.
(I am generally allergic to French novels, which is a pity, because it would be much easier to keep up my French if I could find anything to read. Last time I was going around France I was reduced to reading American SF in translation - French SF is abysmal. Or was then. /digression)
