When making a soup that contains both whole green chilis and French beans, do not, repeat NOT cut the beans to the same length as the chilis.

Fortunately I had some beer at hand.

It wasn't actually as bad as the time my mother-in-law misread "Tomato puree: two tablespoons; chili powder: half a teaspon" as "Tomato puree: two tablespoons; chili powder: two tablespoons" and for the first time I literally did the thing of sticking my tongue under the cold water tap.
